World's Great Hotels: Le Bristol

Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams are shown in a scene filmed at Le Bristol.

When Owen Wilson and the rest of the cast fromWoody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris” take their red carpet turns at the Academy Awards on Sunday in Los Angeles, there will be one star staying behind in the City of Lights.

Le Bristol Paris  is the exquisitely appointed backdrop in the film’s hotel scenes, its marble and 18th century tapestry draped lobby promising the kind of five star discretion that makes it popular with celebs and heads of state: It’s a quick minute’s walk up the street  from the presidential palace, and a favorite lunch spot (thanks to its 3 star Michelin restaurant) of President Sarkozy and his missus, Carla Bruni, who has a small part in the movie as a tour guide. Since it opened in 1925, other Oscar worthy guests have included Marilyn Monroe, Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, Grace Kelly and Ava Gardner. Along with the Four Seasons George V and Plaza Athénée, it's one of the top - and priciest  hotels in the city.
Which is why, with a reputation built on privacy and individual attention, making room for a movie crew requires delicate precision. "The hotel is built in a way that enables us to allocate or dedicate a floor section to the film crew. There is a service lift that leads directly to that section so that they can move around freely without disturbing the other guests," says Chloé Lepoivre, spokesperson for Le Bristol. "It works perfectly."
